The Bulgarian Society for Large Dams was founded in 1938 and as the Bulgarian National Committee for Large Dams (BUNCOLD), it has been a member of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) since the same year. ICOLD is the most prestigious international organization in the world in the field of Water Engineering. According to Decision No. 64 of February 22, 1993 of the Council of Ministers, the Republic of Bulgaria continues to be a member of the ICOLD, represented by the BUNCOLD, and this status of our country is ensured and maintained by the Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) . BUNCOLD is headed by a Management Board (National Committee). The BUNCOLD is an independent legal entity, registered as a non-profit association for carrying out activities for the public benefit, which carries out its activities for the benefit of its members and everything related to research, design, construction and operation of dams and rational use of water resources of the country. (1) The Bulgarian Society for Large Dams (BUNCOLD) is a non-governmental, non-political, creative-professional association - a non-profit legal entity, uniting on a professional basis specialists in the field of dams and Hydraulic Engineering facilities.
(2) The BUNCOLD is an association for carrying out activities for the public benefit within the meaning of the Law on Non-Profit Legal Entities and carries out its activities for the benefit of its members and the public interest related to the research, design, construction and operation of dams and the rational use of the country's water resources.
(3) The Society is a branch organization of experts in the design, construction and operation of dams and the management of the country's water resources.
(4) The BUNCOLD is a member of the ICOLD, observes its statutes and takes part in its international activities and events.
